The history of Morocco has often been difficult to write, in the absence of adequate source materials. As a result of the lack of organized national archives for the period preceding the 19th century, historians have been forced to seek much of their information in contemporary historical works, of which a large number, however, are strll inaccessible or indeed still unknown.
